VERY nicely put. The risks should be very clearly pointed out before install. They are not.

I had my BH phone installed by an installer that was very nice but obviously had no experience. To feed a standard phone type cord through the wall he drilled a 3/4" hole in my wall an then used standard silicone caulk to "seal" the hole. That's something else no one warns you about...Needless to say I wasn't any happier with the service and never ported my number.

For anyone looking into cutting your phone bill, 2 major pieces of advice:

1) don't port your number until you are sure you like the new service. Getting your number ported back is not guaranteed to be quick.

2) look into other VOIP services if that is your choice. The cable companies are only a bargain when compared to the legacy phone company. Lingo.com beats the daylights as compared to BH for a much lower price. This is dependent on a dependable internet source of course, which BH has not been lately.

If you do use a VOIP phone system (including the cable companies) make sure to know where the local pay phones are or make sure your neighbors will not shoot you if you need to bang on their door in the middle of the night in an emergency.

Pay as you go cell phones can be cheap if done correctly for an emegency backup.

Comment on Marriage, really? by Eric Sommer

Following up on your thoughts, I'd ask, that if as a nation we are so preoccupied with the sanctity of marriage (as you defined above and which I agree is the standard definition), then why do we have an approximately 50% divorce rate? Also I'd ask why do so many citizens have enough free time to get involved in what their neighbors are doing behind closed doors

Hypocritical behavior is the corner stone of all religious faiths. It almost has to be since ALL religions date back at least a couple thousand years, therefore their rules and the lives of mankind have evolved considerably since then causing personal conflict What we are left with is masses of people forced to live contradictory lives. Approximately 85% of the US population is Chistian or Jewish and the remaining 15% is "other" or non religious. Now remember there is a 50% divorce rate. There are lots of Holy people that don't care about the sanctity of marriage no matter what they publically say.

If I had to analyze the psyche of the "haters" I'd say they fall into three categories:
1) they are in miserable marriages themselves and feel they can't get out because of their devout religious reasons and they'll be damned if they are going to satnd by and watch two homosexuals actually be happily married when they've been taught their whole lives that homosexuals are an abomination and going to hell. These are also the people that see a young heterosexual couple kissing in public or a mother breast feeding her child and they point fingers and grumble. They don't want anyone else to be happy because their not. Misery enjoys company.
2) they are people who have an irrational fear of losing what they have because they know that if everyone was ACTUALLY equal with equal protection under the law, they would not be "as important" or "as rich" or "as powerful" as they are now. These are the people that consciously or not are in their position in life through exploitation to some degree. They don't see this as a moral issue but as a personal security issue. "If we give them this, then what's next?, Women will actually get eqaul pay???!!!"
3) they are just homophobs because of ignorance and lack education

Now on to point two:
The great government/media collaboration to dumb down the populaiton as a whole has worked tragically to produce the greatest apathetic spenders in Earth's history, fueling a consumerism juggernaut that may still lead to the greatest lifestyle crash ever seen by mankind, dwarfing that seen during the Great Depression.
When a population is so fiercely opposed to ANY hint of a feeling of uncomfortableness in ANY aspect of their lives, they gravitate to doing nothing of substance, in fact to do nothing at all, except shop.

Naturally that leads to lots of down time, and most people get bored with 150 channels of programming so what else is there to do but get involved in what your neighbor is doing. Of course your neighbor is not like you, you don't see him in Wal-Mart, but have seen him in going into the antique store. You don't see him McDonald's but you see him tending his vegetable garden out back. You've never seen his car parked at the Starbucks 3 blocks away but you've seen him drinking coffee through the used book bookstore window. So that makes you real uncomfortable because he not like you, so you get angry. Uncomfortable is bad. You get so angry that you want to make HIM uncomfortable because I mean who does he think he is. He's being diffrent because he thinks he's better than me. So you pay more attention and realize he's gay. Well now Prop 8 comes along and BAM, you are going to put an end to all this differentness.

If people actually took the time to better themselves and get involved in their own lives, there would be NO TIME to even have a remote thought on your neighbors marrital status. I know I certainly don't have a moment to spare on nonsense.
The Second Revolution is coming.
